Bev Reaston

Bev is the mother of three adult children and a grandmother and has been a long term Cairns resident. Her three children attended Cairns schools, played sport including representing Cairns, had leadership roles at school and coached young sporting teams.

Bev has been practising as a Family and De Facto Lawyer for 42 years. She has presented many Family Law Papers over the years to her peers, Financial Advisors, Accountants, Psychologists, Teachers and students. Bev is one of the most experienced Cairns Family Lawyers. Her practice has ranged from complex children’s matters, international relocation cases, constructive trust arguments and farming cases, to Appeals in the Full Court.

Bev is the Queensland Representative on the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia and as such has her finger on the pulse with what is happening with Family Law and De Facto matters across Australia.

Bev has been on Cairns Management Committees for domestic violence, Legal Aid and North Queensland Women’s Legal Centre.

Bev was chosen as one of the 45 Australian female lawyers seen as a trailblazer, whose story, along with other pioneer women lawyers, is on disc at the National Library of Australia. You can read that here.

Bev was one of the first appointed Independent Children’s Lawyers in Cairns. She is passionate about Australia’s commitment to the aims of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

With training in Mediation and Collaborative Law, Bev has developed a unique practice for thinking outside the square.
