Deanne Drummond

Deanne is a mother of two, and a long term Cairns resident. She has been practising in family and de facto law for over 25 years. As a family lawyer, Deanne can explain your rights and obligations in language you understand and suggest all options open to you. Deanne’s high level of service and professional practice has seen her rated as a pre-eminent lawyer over a number of years in the Doyle’s Guide of leading family & divorce lawyers – North and Central Queensland.

Deanne  is an advocate of  trauma informed practice,  a certified functional medicine and trauma specialist as well as a member of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress.
Deanne profileAlso passionate about the rights of children, Deanne acted for the applicants in the first family law case held on Thursday Island about traditional adoption. In 2013 she presented a paper at the 6th World Congress on Family Law and Children’s Rights in Sydney on Kupai Omasker and traditional adoption practices in Australia’s family law system.
Deanne is a former lecturer in family law at James Cook University and past Sessional Member of the Queensland Civil Administration Tribunal (QCAT) where she worked in the Human Rights Division. She regularly presents papers at conferences in Cairns and throughout Australia. In 2019, Deanne was made a life member of the North Queensland Law Association for her contribution to the Association over many years.

Deanne has worked as a mediator and  independent children’s lawyer (ICL). She has also qualified as a Collaborative Lawyer and is a member of the Queensland Association of Collaborative Practitioners. Deanne believes in working hard to find tailor made solutions for clients and their families – often without the need to go to Court.

In 2020 Deanne co-founded TREE House Australia Pty Ltd  with colleague Bev Reaston. TREE House Australia is a not for profit company established to improve the health and lives of those impacted by trauma.  The company does this by educating service providers about trauma informed practice and  the impact of trauma on health & behaviour.  The company collaborates with service providers on how to best assist traumatised clients. TREE is an acronym for Trauma, Recognition, Education and Evolution.
